How to configure Outlook for your email account

Updated 2026-11-05 19:02:05 · 6 views

Setting up Outlook

  1. Open Outlook and go to File > Add Account.
  2. Enter your full email address and click Connect.
  3. Enter your password when prompted. If your organization uses multi-factor authentication, complete that step as well.
  4. Outlook will usually auto-detect the correct server settings. If it asks you to configure manually, use the settings your IT team has provided (ask via a support ticket if you do not have them).
  5. Once added, wait a few minutes for the mailbox to finish syncing - this can take longer the first time if you have a large mailbox.

Common issues

  • Cannot connect to server - check your internet connection, then confirm your password has not expired.
  • Missing emails - check your Junk/Spam folder and any additional folders that may not sync by default.
  • Outlook is slow - a very large mailbox (10GB+) can slow Outlook down; consider archiving old email.

If you are still stuck after trying these steps, raise a ticket and include a screenshot of any error message.
