Network and Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps

Updated 2026-11-05 19:02:16 · 7 views

Fixing common network and Wi-Fi problems

  1. Restart your router/modem. Unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This fixes the majority of connectivity issues.
  2. Restart your device. A simple reboot clears many networking glitches on laptops and phones.
  3. Check if it is one device or all devices. If only one device cannot connect, the problem is likely with that device, not the network.
  4. Forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network - go to your Wi-Fi settings, remove the saved network, and reconnect with the password.
  5. Check the signal strength. If you are far from the router or behind thick walls, try moving closer.
  6. Try a wired connection if available, to check whether the issue is with Wi-Fi specifically or the internet connection itself.
  7. Check for outages. Your internet service provider may be having a wider outage in your area.

If none of these resolve it, please raise a ticket with your location/department and when the issue started.
